Somewhere between the inhale and the exhale, life slips in little questions — the kind that arrive while I’m blending oils, watering basil, or stirring a pot of soup. They’re not always urgent, but they tug at me, asking to be noticed. This space is where I follow those threads: part reflection, part curiosity, part gentle mischief. A place for wondering out loud, for finding meaning in the everyday, and for letting the serious and the lighthearted sit at the same table — preferably with coffee.
I’ve been journaling for as long as I can remember — pages filled with observations, questions, and the quiet truths that only seem to surface when pen meets paper. But life shifted last year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer — caught early, with a good prognosis. I’m still in recovery now, moving through the slow work of healing after surgery and treatment.
In this season of rest, I’ve been turning more deeply toward writing. My journal has become both anchor and companion, and slowly, some of those notes have begun to take shape as poetry. I read voraciously, letting other voices and ideas mingle with my own, and I’m beginning to see this as a way to share more of my creative side — not just the part of me that works with hands and oils, but the part that works with words and questions.
Alongside my work in aromatherapy, reflexology, and teaching, I’ve also been training in Ayurveda — a study currently on pause while I recover, but one that has already begun to weave itself into my daily life. Even in this quieter season, I find myself integrating Ayurvedic principles into how I eat, rest, and move through the day. It’s becoming another thread in the tapestry of how I approach wellness, creativity, and living in alignment.
I’m Maria Fiordalisi — holistic wellness practitioner, founder of Helianthus Holistic Arts, and a lifelong student of the ways we can nurture body, mind, and spirit. My work is not separate from my personal life; it’s all part of the same whole. The same hands that blend essential oils also tend my garden. The same curiosity that leads me to study anatomy also sends me down rabbit holes of philosophy, poetry, and ancient healing traditions.
This Substack will be my more personal corner of the internet — a place for contemplations, ideas, and the kinds of philosophical questions that don’t always have neat answers. I’ll share what I’m learning, what I’m wrestling with, and what inspires me — from the science of scent to the art of slowing down.
You can expect:
Reflections on the intersections of wellness, creativity, and daily living
Musings on balance, alignment, and the quiet work of self-discovery
Journal notes and poetry from my own pages
Insights from holistic and Ayurvedic practices
Questions meant not to be answered quickly, but to be lived with
I am still learning what it means to live in rhythm with myself — to listen for the quieter cues, to honour the seasons within as much as the seasons outside. Ayurveda has been teaching me that healing is not a straight line but a conversation, one where the body, mind, and spirit each take turns speaking. Writing, for me, is part of that dialogue. These words are my way of tracing the patterns, noticing the shifts, and sharing the small, steady ways I am finding balance again.
